Who Should We Be Faithful to in Lockdown?

It is very quiet where we live. Sometimes a neighbour’s kid plays the drums, sometimes kids on the other side play (and cry when mommy calls them inside), sometimes we hear a car or motorbike … but generally it’s quiet.

There are so many WhatsApp messages and clips as well as material on the internet about the Covid-19 virus. Some material seems helpful, but most (even if flavored with Christian or Biblical terms / verses) are not helpful.

A good place to bookmark is this site provided by the SA government: www.sacoronavirus.co.za.

May I share something from the Bible with you today? It comes from the New Testament Book of Galatians …

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Look at that fruit: “faithfulness”.

We need to remain faithful to God at times like this. Don’t slack off!

We need to remain faithful to our families and friends by looking after them and protecting them at this time.

We need to remain faithful to ourselves, being obedient to all protocols required at this time.

We need to remain faithful to those in authority over us at this time. Their task is difficult … but we must say the president and his team have put a good action plan into place. Pray for them as per the call to Timothy.

1Ti 2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

We need to remain faithful to the police and military should they stop us in the event of us traveling to the shops, banks or doctors.
May God bless us and encourage us to be faithful.
