Today I want to tell you two stories about making dough.
The first one is about a friend in Christ whose son brought home a 12.5kg bag of flower. Making bread for two people, this bag would last a long time. To our delight, she made pizza dough and had sufficient to share a sizable portion with us. So Sunday lunch will be pizza. On her way from the store she dropped the pizza dough off at our home. (Thank you again, dear sister in Christ).
The second story is about our daughter. She made bread on Friday using a recipe. The recipe was for two … but she wanted to make one loaf. She halved all the ingredients and whilst mixing, she realised she had not halved the oil and needed to add another portion of all the ingredients to lessen the oil and landed up with two loaves.
In the first story, our friend’s excess became our Sunday lunch. She shared! In the second story, our daughter corrected her error without losing her mixture and had two loaves!
Here we have two stories that contain two lessons for us as believers.
Sharing
Ro 12:13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
God’s people share with God’s people. We do so not to gain recognition or return, but for the joy of our common participation in God’s Kingdom of Love.
Correcting
Pr 10:17 He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
When you discipline yourself, you are correcting yourself, your morals, your ethics and your behaviour.
Now on a higher level …
We share God’s presence–everything He has (including His joy) is ours through Jesus Christ!
Mt 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!'”
We share in being corrected by God through His Word!
2 Tom 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
