The Blessing of Rain

So today, we started the second week of lock down. For busy people, the week went past quickly.

Although I mow the lawns on a Friday, I’m grateful I did it on Monday as today was cold and miserable and it rained later in the day. For me it’s always a joy when God does the watering–it’s almost like He knows it saves me money not having to put the borehole pump on and it saves me time.

Rain is always seen as a blessing … but it could also be God raining punishment and wrath upon the wicked.

Consider:

Ps 72:6 He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.

7 In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more.

Here, the Psalmist looks at God being a blessing … like rain falling!

Many Puritans prayed for the Spirit of God to rain upon the people of God–that is, that God would send a spiritual revival upon His Church and the Church in turn would become a blessing to the lost world around her.

Dear God, graciously send Your Spirit upon Your Church. May that heavenly rain revive and renew Your Church. May Your Church be transformed in holiness, blamelessness and righteousness. Oh God, around us are so many lost souls … perhaps some will not survive this lock down period. Please let the gospel reach those rebellious souls at this time. This we pray in Jesus Name. Amen!
