Shutting the Door on Temptation

Today I did some painting on the wall and ceiling of a in a built-in-wardrobe. I actually started yesterday and completed the task today. The drying takes time, but the smell takes longer. I left the windows open and closed the door into the passage to minimize the smell’s effect in the house. I shut the door on the smell.

There are various effects certain environments might have on us as Christians causing us to sin and dishonour the Lord. We need to shut the door on those environments, be it temptations of whatever sort.

Shutting the door is not always easy and we do need help from the Lord … is He is able to help?

He says to the priests in Malachi’s day:

Mal 1:10 “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD Almighty, “and I will accept no offering from your hands.”

God means that the priests need to shut the door on people bringing diseased animals as sacrifices. When they obey, God would help them to shut those doors.

This is true for us today if we want to obey and act according to God’s Highway of Righteousness. God speaks, we listen and obey by actioning what He wants and then He will graciously help us.

Lord, all too often we make life so difficult for ourselves. Help us to obey and shut the door on sin for Christ sake Amen.
