The Bible’s Explanation of God’s Existence

Whilst preparing breakfast for Jen and myself, I switched on and listened to Radio 702. I have listened to this station for many years, not because I enjoy the station but because they have a knack at exposing where the general population are at. Over the past few years, their morning presenters have changed. One of these changes is Eusebius McKaise stepping into the 9am-12pm slot. He is well educated, having a law degree and a fine arts degree. He is well read and even an author. He has skilled the art of debating and is an excellent communicator. His diction far exceeds that of the average person who has a tertiary education. And as always there is a “but”! The “but” follows this line … he is a self-professed homosexual having had many partners and now living with one. He is also a self-professed agnostic, challenging anyone to prove to him that there is a God.

Today he started his rant questioning whether there is a deity somewhere, male or female. You are invited to call in and explain or prove your deity, where he or she is and why in the midst of the COVID-19 virus, how can such a God be all-knowing and all-loving and all-caring. He cites a 2 day old baby dying of the virus and questions how an all caring, all loving deity could permit this (He angered me by referring to “Jesus Freaks”).

Naturally, this is an age-old question and one that atheists and agnostics love to throw at religious people, especially Christians. “Prove there is a God!” They are entitled to use evolutionary theories, quoting this or that professor, but as soon as you use the Holy Bible, they shut you down by saying you need to prove the Bible is actually the Words of your deity. Their arguments are cleverly thought out, yet in fact, there is little difference to their general arguments.

Here’s the thought … examine the morals of many atheists and agnostics and you will identify their religious slant or lack thereof. By the way, when I say “morals”, I am not referring to being clean and kind and helpful. I’m not even referring to whether this means swearing or smoking or drinking alcohol. By morals, I am referring to, as a Christian, measuring myself against the yardstick of God’s Word.

Allow me to present two arguments from a Christian position that proves the existence of the one, true living God:

Ro 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

I don’t even need to explain these passages, as they state themselves clearly. There is a God who created. Sinful man distorts and ignores and rejects God’s truth to suit his moral persuasion! Read on from Romans 1:26.

You see, sinful man’s starting point is wrong. Yes, God is all caring and all loving … but He hates sin! Man sins and is caught up in the cross fire of his sin. We have 2 day old babies dying; we have starvation and other shapes of disease; we have cruelty and wickedness; we have oppression, apartheid, “racism”, entitlement, etc. You see, without seeing what’s wrong with this world (Ephesians 2:1 ff), our starting platform is incorrect and will lead to incorrect assumptions and beliefs. Yes, I have prayed for the salvation of Eusebius McKaise, and yes, I have determined to find an alternative talk radio station.

Dear Father in Heaven, there are so many people classing themselves as authorities seeking to blaspheme Your Holy Name and Your existence. Thank You that You are the God who is. Thank You for revealing Yourself to us on the pages of Scripture and through Creation. Thank You for eyes to see and sufficient education to grasp truth. Thank You especially for the Holy Spirit Who has revealed Your Gospel Truth to us individually. Help me, Lord, never to be swayed by those who are more educated than me. Thank You that Your Word is my Teacher. Continue to guide me through Your Word, throughout life and into eternity. Amen.
